As the final season of Gotham nears its end, many of Batman’s classic villains will be coming into the fold for the long-awaited arrival of The Dark Knight. One of the newest additions will be Scarface and the Ventriloquist, a classic Batman duo. The Ventriloquist himself will be played by Andrew Sellon (The Smurfs).
Originally, Sellon played Cobblepot’s assistant, Mr. Penn. However, he died in season five episode three. It is still unknown if he will return from the dead or be given a brand new character to portray. My guess would ultimately be the latter, as many shows have made similar decisions in the past. The duo joins the constantly expanding gallery of rogues, which most recently welcomed the show’s take on Bane into their ranks.
The Ventriloquist first appeared in Detective Comics #583 and has since had three incarnations: Arnold Wesker, Peyton Riley, and most recently, Shauna Belzer. This iteration seems to be Arnold Wesker, or at least based on him.
Gotham continues its final season this week with episode seven, “Ace Chemicals”. Gotham premieres Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. on FOX.
