Hulu has announced multiple Marvel projects that include Helstrom and Ghost Rider, both slated to premiere in 2020. Gabriel Luna will reprise his role from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., as Robbie Reyes, the Ghost Rider.
Hulu also has five Marvel animated shows in the pipeline that include Howard the Duck, Tigra & Dazzler, M.O.D.O.K., Hit-Monkey, which will all culminate in the team-up event The Offenders. Season 3 of The Runaways will also hit the streaming service soon.
Ghost Rider will be executive produced by Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb, Paul Zbyszewski, and Ingrid Escajeda who will serve as the showrunner. The show’s setting will be the Texas/Mexico border and will revolve around Reyes struggling to control the demon within while also simultaneously trying to fight the good fight.
“I couldn’t be more excited and honored to be handed the reins to a Marvel character as beloved as Ghost Rider. This story hits every note for me—my love for grounded yet conflicted characters and my desire to scare the $&!# out of people! It’s important to me to find a take that thrills existing fans as well as wider audiences and I believe we’ve done just that,” said Escajeda.
Zbyszewski will serve as the showrunner for Helstrom, who will also executive produce alongside Loeb. Helstrom will revolve around Daimon and Ana Helstrom who are the children of a powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated relationship and are tasked to track down the worst of humanity.
“As a lifelong Marvel fan, I feel incredibly fortunate to help bring this darker, thrilling corner of the comic book universe to life, and I’m just grateful to everyone at Marvel Television and Hulu for the opportunity,” said Zbyszewski. “Marvel’s known for all the heart, humor, and action they put into every series, but this time around we’re adding some scares to that mix. I think we’ve found a compelling way to dissect some of our deepest fears through the experiences of our two lead characters.”
