Zack Snyder, film director, producer, and screenwriter known for his superhero films such as Justice League (2017) and Man of Steel (2013), is teaming up with Netflix to try his hand at television, more specifically a Norse mythology anime. Snyder alongside Jay Oliva, a storyboard artist and director who has worked on titles such as Wonder Woman (2017) and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (2012), will be serving as co-writers and executive producers for the project. Oliva will also be the showrunner and director of the series.
This is not the first team-up of this dynamic duo. Oliva has worked as an artist for many of Snyder’s comics and films. The series is being produced by Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller through Stone Quarry Animation.
Snyder is working on a new zombie-thriller Army of the Dead and Oliva is the current producer for one of Netflix’s other original anime Trese.
The head of Anime programming for Netflix, John Derderian commented,
“Zack Snyder’s innovation in visual storytelling has pushed the industry forward and established him as one of the most distinctive filmmakers of his generation. We are beyond excited to partner with him and his exceptional team to bring the iconic characters and stories of Norse mythology to life in his inimitable style.”
Netflix is becoming a growing home for anime with many original titles such as Aggretsuko, Castlevania, Devilman Crybaby, and The Seven Deadly Sins. The Norse mythology anime will be another on their long list of original anime.
Netflix has yet to release any specific information about the project.
