Zack Snyder’s zombie-horror-heist-thriller Army of the Dead has not only had its full cast announced, but has also begun shooting. Starring Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Endgame,) the movie is set to feature other notable actors such as Hiroyuki Sanada (Westworld, The Wolverine,) Garret Dillahunt (No Country for Old Men, Fear of the Walking Dead,) Chris D’Elia (Man on Fire,) and Omari Hardwick (Kick-Ass, Sorry to Bother You.)
Although fairly little is known about the plot of the film, what has been revealed sounds fairly interesting as genre concepts go: a group of mercenaries enter a zombie-infested quarantine zone located in Las Vegas, where they attempt to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted. In addition to directing, Zack Snyder also wrote the film, alongside Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3) and Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.) Deborah Snyder is set to produce alongside Wesley Coller.
Originally planned as a sequel to Snyder’s 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, the film was announced to be directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. (2011’s The Thing.) Little was heard regarding the project until January 2019, when Netflix acquired the rights to produce the film and announced Zack Snyder to write and direct.
Filming kicked off in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Monday, with no release date yet announced.
